Round 6

Devonshire West Big Local ran its 6th round of Community Grants in spring 2017 and funded 6 new projects.

Find our more below.

Age Concern Eastbourne

A partnership between Matthew 25 Mission and Age Concern Eastbourne’s ‘She’d’ project will see volunteer shedders, who are older isolated men, build a community garden at Brodie Hall, Christ Church, on Seaside. The project aims to help older shedders and the clients of M25M the opportunity to take part in a healthy, social activity which will have a wider community benefit, offering local people the opportunity to help maintain the garden and make use of its produce. The food grown in the garden will be distributed to those in need by M25M, but residents are also encouraged to take part and share in the bounty.

Clean Air Eastbourne

Clean Air Eastbourne are on a mission to measure the pollution levels in Devonshire West by working with residents to build and install air quality monitors on houses and key community buildings. Air pollution can have serious effects on our health and Clean Air Eastbourne hope to use their findings to put pressure on local and national government to reduce air pollution locally.

Shinewater Shaftsbury Center

The Shinewater Shaftsbury Center are looking to expand their free advice service into Devonshire West, offering a once a week drop in offering advice around money and debt and offering 1-1 counselling for those in need.

H.O.M.E

H.O.M.E have been running a successful IT drop in for the last year, training young volunteers in computer and web design skills who then offer support to anyone in the area who may need some computer or technical advice. This inter-generational project has been very popular and has supported a number of unemployed young people into work.

Heart Touching Photography

Heart Touching Photography hope to run a new LGBT support/self-help group for young people in the Devonshire West area, an area of Eastbourne which has no such existing group. Their hope is to support young LGBT people come together in safe, non-judgmental space.

Little Stars

Little Stars have been running a very successful, completely free, baby and toddler group in DW for last year. Now in addition to this they will be offering low cost baby sensory classes and baby massage sessions for local families.
